Palate Free

An alternative technique to traditional tissue grafts that require the surgical removal of tissue from the roof of the mouth (palate).

Geistlich Mucograft® and Geistlich Fibro-Gide® are biomaterials that have been specifically designed for soft tissue regeneration and are utilized to regenerate receding gums or increasing gum tissue thickness around teeth or dental implants. When using these materials there is no need to surgically remove tissue from the palate which results in less pain, faster recovery time and less surgical procedure time. Good healing and superior esthetics are also benefits of these materials.

The Importance of Healthy Gum Tissue

Regeneration

Regeneration is the natural process of replacing or restoring damaged or missing cells, tissues, organs, and even entire body parts to full function in plants and animals. In dentistry, guided bone or tissue regeneration uses biomaterials to direct the growth of new bone and gum tissue where there is insufficient volume or for proper function and esthetics.

Palate Free
Patient Experiences

“I was nervous about the process remembering the procedure I had done so long ago. However, with the expertise of Dr. Puterman, using Geistlich’s products everything went so smooth and easy. I wish I would have done it sooner. I’ve been back for check ups after the procedure and everything has been looking great.”Adam
"I needed to have a procedure done to remove a back molar. My doctor suggested an alternative approach so I would not have two surgical sites. He explained that traditionally a piece of my gum tissue would be cut from the roof of my mouth and placed into the defect. I didn’t want to experience two painful wound sites so I was happy to use a safe a proven alternative. I would recommend asking your doctor about palate free alternatives."Kim
“Following two grafting procedures that did not achieve the desired effect, my periodontist recommended that tissue be taken from the roof of my mouth for the third attempt. He mentioned that the pain from the site where the graft would be taken would likely be more painful than the surgical site and require longer to heal. I asked if there were alternatives and he mentioned a product called Geistlich Fibro-Gide®. We used Geistlich Fibro-Gide® and the outcome was much better than the previous two procedures when donor tissue was used, and without the additional pain and recovery. My doctor and I are very happy with the result.”Dustin

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Healthy Gum Tissue So Important?

Healthy gum tissue forms a tight seal around your teeth to support the underlying bone and provides a barrier to bacteria.

Poor oral hygiene or over-aggressive brushing can result in the amount of gum tissue around your teeth, dental implants, and/or in areas where you have lost your teeth, to be inadequate, become loose or not be present at all.

Lack of gum tissue around teeth or implants can lead to:

  • Difficulty in maintaining oral hygiene
  • Inflammation/irritation of the area
  • Severe loss of bone (tooth loss) and additional gum tissue

What Can Happen if Gum Tissue Recession is Left Untreated?

  • Bone and gum surrounding the tooth may further recede
  • Pain and discomfort when in contact with cold or hot elements
  • Oral hygiene may be compromised leading to inflammation
  • Exposure of the root surface can result in tooth root cavities

What Can Happen When Your Gum Tissue is Loose or Too Thin?

  • Inflammation of the gum tissue
  • Pain and bleeding may cause difficulty in maintaining good oral hygiene
  • Chronic inflammation may lead to bone and receding gum tissue
  • Unfavorable esthetics
